PREVENTION OF SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST IN YOUTH

ABOUT LIVING FOR ZACHARY HEART SCREENINGS: Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) claims nearly 10,000 young lives each year. On April 2, 2009, Zac Schrah collapsed during high school football practice in Plano, TX. Zac's family later learned that he died from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM), which is a common cause of sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) in young people.

Living for Zachary is dedicated to raising awareness of SCA in youth and saving lives through community education and awareness events, promoting youth heart screenings, awarding student scholarships and donating automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to youth-based organizations.

Living for Zachary is coordinating student heart screenings performed by Frontera. These screenings include a limited echocardiogram, EKG & blood pressure test. Many of the problems detected can be treated or corrected.

Contact your pediatrician immediately if your child is currently experiencing Sudden Cardiac Arrest symptoms.

The Living for Zachary Heart Screening DOES NOT provide clearance for participation in athletics. It is a supplement to pre-participation athletic screenings targeted for causes of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).
